Graduate Development Programme
Our Programme
Scottish Woodlands operates a Graduate Development Scheme to give recent graduates of forestry and related subjects experience of working life in the forestry industry, whether this be as a Forest Manager or other relevant position. The Graduate Development Scheme gives successful candidates a good foundation for their future careers in the forestry industry.
This is an exciting time to join the forestry industry, with many opportunities to gain experience in woodland creation, sustainable forest management, and timber harvesting. Along with a good knowledge of silviculture, today’s Forest Manager makes use of modern tools such as digital mapping, drones, and remote sensing, which help monitor forest health and plan operations more efficiently.
Forestry today is about much more than trees — it’s also about protecting wildlife environments and helping tackle climate change through carbon capture and sustainable timber production. With growing interest in nature restoration and renewable materials, forestry offers a rewarding career for those who want to make a lasting impact on the environment.
At a policy level, this is a great time to be involved in the forestry industry as the many benefits for planting more trees is better understood and advocated. Work is underway on development of the next climate change plan, for 2026 to 2040.
Forestry is an excellent STEM career choice. If you like working in the outdoors, mostly in rural locations, have relevant qualifications, great communication and IT skills and are enthusiastic about all things trees, please join us!
