Who We Are
Scottish Woodlands Ltd is a leading forestry management company with a long tradition of serving forest owners and investors in Scotland and the rest of the UK. Originally established as a woodland owner’s cooperative, our history can be traced back over 75 years. The company has grown and developed significantly to become a major player in the British forestry and timber industry, delivering over 1,000,000 tonnes of timber per annum to UK timber processors, managing over 200,000ha of forest properties and planting more than 25% of private sector new woodland expansion.
The business is largely employee owned, and this encourages a dedication and commitment to the highest standards of professionalism and customer focus. Our aim is to understand each client’s specific objectives and then to provide a service which is both flexible and personal. The enthusiasm of the staff is backed by an integrated management system accredited to ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environmental), OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health & Safety) and ISO 26000 (Corporate Social Responsibility). Safety is the number one priority across all of our operational business streams, and we have invested in training of all staff so they not only understand their personal responsibilities, but can engage skilled, competent contractors, and deliver effective solutions using safe systems of work.
Building on our core skills and experience, we have developed specialist contracting services for utility service providers, (vegetation management for power line and railway infrastructure) and for arboricultural and landscaping sectors.
Our specialist Investment team help clients to buy and sell forest properties while our Technical Support team can offer specialist services in forestry mapping and woodland insurance.
We were the first national enterprise in the UK to establish and run a group certification scheme ratified to UKWAS principles for our clients so that they can deliver timber to the market with a credible eco-label and a secure chain of custody.
We’re proud to take our place within a developing UK forest industry which has environmental sustainability at its core, promoting the expansion of tree cover to improve habitats and biodiversity as well as fixing carbon and helping to mitigate climate change. As a major supplier to the UK forest products industry we’re part of the movement to increase the use of timber and wood fibre as a renewable and carbon fixing raw material.
