Forestry a hot topic at scorching Royal Welsh Show
The future of forestry in Wales was a hot topic as temperatures soared at the Royal Welsh Show.
Flintshire Woodlands staff welcomed a steady stream of visitors to their tent at the UK's largest agricultural show, at Builth Wells, Powys.
The stand was manned by staff from the Chirk office, with support from directors and colleagues from other Scottish Woodlands’ offices.
Charles Gittins, Senior Forest Manager with Flintshire Woodlands, said: "It was a busy, very warm, and very interesting week. Visitors to the stand included clients, potential clients, contractors, and colleagues."
"There were a lot of issues people were keen to discuss. We had conversations about timber markets, the Welsh Government’s Sustainable Farming Scheme, recruitment to the forest industry, the importance of our sector to rural economies, global warming, tree species selection, and much more."
The stand promoted the geographical coverage of Flintshire Woodlands throughout Wales, the Midlands and the North-west - and its connection to Scottish Woodlands, its parent company.
There were also attractions for the next generation of forestry workers – small-scale forest machinery for youngsters to try and a giant noughts and crosses game.
"The Royal Welsh is such an important landmark for rural interests in Wales and it's so important that Flintshire Woodlands is there to meet friends and clients old and new," Mr Gittins added.
