Senior Managers join mock employment tribunal

Senior managers from Scottish Woodlands Ltd were given an important insight into employment tribunals at an event hosted by a UK law firm.

A total of 35 managers attended a mock Employment Tribunal event hosted by Shoosmiths LLP at its office in Edinburgh.

The group included colleagues from RTS Forestry, which joined the Scottish Woodlands’ business in December 2024.

Ian Robinson, Scottish Woodlands’ Managing Director, said: “Participating in a mock Employment Tribunal is a vital development experience for our senior managers. It offers a valuable opportunity to deepen understanding of the potential legal and organisational consequences of workplace decisions.”

“Experiencing the mock tribunal first-hand provided invaluable insights into the full process - including giving evidence, being cross-examined, and being re-examined.”

Four Scottish Woodlands’ staff played a direct role in the mock tribunal: Natasha Bruce, HR Advisor; Dessy Henry, Forestry Director; Andy MacLachlan, General Manager - Business Development; and Morven Wilson, Senior Compliance Manager.

Lynne Macdonald , Scottish Woodlands’ HR Manager added: “They did an outstanding job of bringing this to life for the group and demonstrating the realities of the process, with professionalism and composure. The session provided practical insight into how managerial actions are scrutinised through the lens of employment law.”

“Overall, the event was a great success - engaging, insightful, and highly relevant to the challenges our managers and leaders face. It sparked meaningful discussion, strengthened practical understanding, and reinforced our commitment to fair, informed, and legally sound decision-making across the company.”
