Forest Manager gets on his bike for homeless charity

Scottish Woodlands Forest Manager Robert Lawlor is preparing to take on a 120km (75-mile) cycling challenge to raise vital funds for Manna House, a housing and homelessness charity.

Robert, based in Melrose as part of Scottish Woodlands' forest management team, will tackle the full Tour O the Borders route to support Manna House's essential work providing advice, advocacy, and drop-in support for those facing homelessness, housing insecurity, and social isolation.

"I'm looking forward to taking on this challenge for such a worthy cause," said Robert. "While I'm admittedly more excited about the promised refreshment stops and plenty of cake and pies along the route than the actual cycling, I'm determined to complete the full 120km to raise as much as possible for Manna House."

"Admittedly I haven't been training that much on the road bike. have. However, a few big rides, lots of mountain biking and walking/running up the hills should act as a good base. I am very lucky to have a job that involves many steep hills and keeps me on my feet as much as this one!"

Manna House works for the benefit of the public in South Lakeland in Cumbria, providing comprehensive support including:

  • Practical material assistance to address urgent physical needs
  • Support, acceptance, and positive role models for social and emotional well-being
  • Advice, assistance and advocacy on housing and money matters to improve housing security
  • Learning opportunities that improve health, well-being, and employment prospects

The charity plays a crucial role in supporting vulnerable members of the community, offering both immediate practical help and longer-term support to help people rebuild their lives.

Scottish Woodlands is proud to support Robert's fundraising efforts as part of the company's commitment to community engagement and social responsibility. The Tour O the Borders is a well-established cycling event that attracts participants from across the region while raising money for numerous charitable causes.
