Eddie gets on his bike

Scottish Woodlands' newest Director describes his love of birch trees and mountain biking in the latest Meet The Team video.

Eddie Addis, appointed Director for the North Region earlier this year, oversees four offices across a wide geographical area - Banchory (Aberdeenshire), Dingwall (Highland), Fochabers (Moray), and Fort William (West Highlands).

Interviewed earlier this summer at the Royal Highland Show, Eddie says there are good opportunities for new woodland creation across the region.

He says his biggest challenges are recruiting staff, and building public awareness of modern forestry. "Land use change is very emotive, and there's always people who aren't going to like what we're trying to do," he explains.

Eddie loves the birch tree "from an aesthetic point of view", adding: "I think they're very nice trees, both in the summer and winter, an attractive tree which goes well in mixes."

Asked to name an area of woodland he would recommend to visit, Eddie chooses the Tweed Valley.

He says: "I'm a keen mountain biker and do quite a lot of cycling, and I like the Tweed Valley and the balance between productivity and recreation and environmental benefits."
