Scottish Woodlands features in list of top 100 private companies in Scotland

Scottish Woodlands Ltd has been named for the first time as one of Scotland's top 100 private companies in a highly-respected annual report.

The Scotland Limited Report by Grant Thornton placed Scottish Woodlands Ltd at No 76 in the listings, ahead of household names like Highland Spring, Macdonald Hotels and housebuilder Mactaggart and Mickel.

The report is compiled using the most recent publicly available accounts of Scotland’s best performing businesses, which are ranked based on a hybrid measure of data, which includes turnover and earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation.

The list is topped by car dealer Arnold Clark, followed by distiller William Grant & Sons, engineering company Aggreko and building group Miller Homes. It also includes Dobbies Garden Centres and BrewDog.

Ralland Browne, Managing Director of Scottish Woodlands Ltd, said: “It is a privilege to appear in this list alongside some of Scotland’s best-known brands - and testament to the hard work of everyone in the company and the quality of the service they provide."

“Our focus, as ever, is on a solid and sustainable approach which allows us to grow the business organically. This involves a balanced focus on all our business sectors and all the geographical areas in which we operate - with a constant emphasis on excellent client service."

“I’d like to personally thank all our staff, contractors, clients - and everyone else who works with us in any way - for their roles in delivering this great accolade.”

Grahams Dairy was another business that moved into the top 100 for the first time this year.

In his introduction to the report, Neil McInnes, Grant Thornton’s Head of Corporate Finance Scotland, said: “Our Scotland Limited Report shines a light on the 100 most successful private companies in the nation. Their achievements and contribution to the Scottish economy need to be understood and celebrated. They’re exemplars, setting a path that should inspire others. All the more so as, in the period under review in this report, the challenges posed by COVID-19 and the UK’s exit from the European Union were still being felt.”

Scottish Woodlands now employs 222 people and its latest company accounts, to September 30th 2021, showed annual turnover up to £125.14 million, from £108.42 million in 2019/20.
