Regional Manager describes love of 'magical' oak woods
Charlotte Cavey-Wilcox describes her love of oak trees - and the vast range of insect species they support - in the latest Scottish Woodlands 'Meet The team' video.
Charlotte, Regional Manager for South-East Scotland, chooses Lochwood Oaks, near Moffat, as her favourite woodland, saying: "In springtime, the ground is carpeted with bluebells and stitchwort and it's just a magical place to be."
The Wood, a triple SSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest), also supports purple hairstreak butterflies.
Charlotte says her love of oak trees comes from "the sheer diversity of invertebrate species they support", as well as the "incredibly beautiful timber" they provide.
She also describes how she marries her job with her passion for insects! She says: "All types of woodlands support a diversity of insects and I enjoy monitoring the species we have in the forests as part of citizen science to provide evidence of different insect species that forests support."
